A Beast that Eats Love, a poem by Asif Sultan Matta

A Beast that Eats 'Love'

It is the beast that eats goodness
leaves man in guilt and deep distress

it is the snake that sucks all love
No relation sees,  it's so ruthless,

venom it spreads in affable blood
turns it bitter and affectionless

Filth it is that taints your pure love
loathsome it makes your great beingness

Folks cluster around to a loving heart
and the one who shouts is the one heard less

'Brave is not one who wrestles men down
but the one who waits-- its vent suppress'

Anger, berserk horse that failures ride
rein it too firm and veer to success.
